In our day to day lives, there’s a decision to be made in each moment. In fact, sometimes we’re faced with hundreds of decisions every day. Understanding the power that you have in these moments defines your future. When you realize the significance of this, you then have the possibility of creating the future that you desire, or not. Yes, each decision no matter how small has the power to either lead you closer to your goal or further away. It just depends on the choice that you make.
When making a decision, you must consider your level of self-awareness in the present moment. It’s important to be aware that you have a decision to make. Then you need to select the best choice from a variety of options that will ultimately support your primary goal(s). For example, let’s say that you are faced with the choice of answering two different phone calls. One is a potential client and the other is your personal trainer. Which call will you take?
If your true number one goal is to increase your sales figures then you should take the call from the potential client. However, the easier call in that instance would most likely be your personal trainer. By taking the call from the personal trainer, it would lead you away from your sales goal. Frequently, making these types of decisions will undermine your progress in the long run and lead to self-sabotage. In the end, continuing this type of action will only lead to frustration, and that all too familiar feeling of being “stuck.” And that’s when we say to ourselves, “I don’t know what I can do to change things.” The reality is that you can change things when you decide that you are willing to make better choices. It’s only when you allow yourself to be side-tracked in your decision-making that creates the problem.
So now let’s back up and look at this scenario again. This time make the other choice by deciding to speak with the potential client. For argument’s sake, let’s say that you have a positive conversation with that person, and they mention that their friend would also be interested in talking with you. At that point, you haven’t gained any sales yet, but you have opened the door for future conversations with more than one person. By taking enough calls like this, you will surely get closer to your goal of increasing your sales figures. The good news is that it’s just a matter of time when you will reach your goal provided you continually build on this process.
Follow these decision-making steps to stay on course:
- Practice being focused and conscious in the present moment
- Compare your options
- Keep your priorities in mind
- Make a wise decision by proceeding with the choice that supports what you have identified as your number one goal
Wishing you success in the New Year beyond your wildest dreams!
